Nearly eight years later, the crew of the USS Tesseract -- the first official Starfleet mission of exploration to the Delta Quadrant – has found a quadrant in ruins, torn apart by the Collective and a new, more terrifying kind of Borg -- the Borg Resistance. They are free of the Collective, free of established protocols, without cohesion or unity, and operating under cloak. This is a collection of Weekly Free Writes and other stories which take place within the Times of the HG Wells universe that I have created, or have something to do with any of the principals in that series, or their counterparts. The principals are: canon character Temporal Agent Richard Daniels, HD Avery, Daniel Beauchaine, Sheilagh Bernstein, Branch Borodin, Admiral Carmen Calavicci, Dr. Marisol Castillo, Levi Cavendish, Otra D’Angelo, Thomas Grant, Deirdre Katzman, Kevin O’Connor, Polly Porter, Crystal Sherwood and Dr. Boris Yarin.

At the beginning of each chapter, I’ll introduce it with the teaser information (if any) plus the date(s) when a story took place. Some stories take place during several time periods; I’ll try to cover them all. Furthermore, I’ll put the stories together in chronological order by their main time periods. Therefore, it’s entirely possible that I will write something at a later date which takes place earlier. Hence you will probably see some shuffling.

Lots of these stories are referenced in the eight big books from the series. Therefore, those eight books are also listed, although they are not duplicated here. Rather, they are listed in chronological order as well, with teaser copy and dates, but only with a link to where a book is already posted. Those books are A Long, Long Time Ago; Ohio; You Mixed-Up Siciliano; Spring Thaw; Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain; The Point is Probably Moot; Shake Your Body and He Stays a Stranger. Prequel books First Born, Temper and Coveted Commodity are also referenced; they are also a part of the In Between Days universe (HG Wells is a sequel universe to In Between Days). Any other books written in the future will be referenced rather than duplicated. The eight big books are divided into three sections. Section I is called Repairs, and contains A Long, Long Time Ago; Ohio and You Mixed-Up Siciliano. Section II is called Complications and contains Spring Thaw and Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain. Section III is called Unravelings and contains The Point is Probably Moot; Shake Your Body and He Stays a Stranger.

The title Times of the HG Wells refers to the voyages of the time ship of that name and the general workings of the 31st and 32nd century Temporal Integrity Commission. The structure of the eight big books is meant to be a serial evocative of the season-long canon ENT Xindi arc, where all of the stories were interrelated.

My hope is that by putting the stories together this way, they will begin to have more context and coherence, and that the reader will be able to better see how it all fits together.

Lots of these stories are referenced in the five big books and two smaller books from the In Between Days series. Therefore, those seven books are also listed, although they are not duplicated here. Rather, they are listed in chronological order as well, with teaser copy and dates, but only with a link to where a book is already posted. Those books are the small prequels, Paving Stones Made from Good Intentions and The Light, and then the five books – Reversal, Intolerance, Together, Temper and Fortune. Any other books written in the future will be referenced rather than duplicated.

The title In Between Days refers not only to a Cure song of that name, but also the time period roughly between the Terra Prime/Mirror Universe episodes on ENT and the These Are the Voyages episode which ended that series. However, as I’ve gone on, I’ve written prequels and sequels, so the time period, which is about from 2155 – 2162 or so, has been breached several times. And don’t get me started on the Mirror Universe, alternate timelines and other little side projects.

My hope is that by putting the Weekly Free Writes together this way, they will begin to have more coherence, and that the reader will be able to better see how it all fits together.

This is a piece I wrote for the monthly fan-fiction contest at Trek BBS where the challenge was to write a piece involving a "what if" scenario.
